Basement Transformation

Reclaiming the Lower Level

In Canada, finishing a basement effectively doubles your living space. However, treating a basement like an above-ground floor is a critical error. Basements are concrete structures embedded in damp earth. They require specific building science to remain dry, warm, and structurally sound over decades.

Moisture & Thermal Management

Before erecting a single stud, we assess the foundation for efflorescence, cracking, and moisture intrusion. We do not use fiberglass batts directly against concrete walls. Instead, we implement a system of rigid foam insulation (XPS/EPS) or closed-cell spray foam. This creates a continuous thermal break and acts as a vapor barrier, entirely preventing condensation and the resulting mold.

Sub-Floor Systems

Installing finished flooring directly on cold concrete is a recipe for failure. We install engineered sub-floor systems (like Dricore) that provide an air gap between the concrete and your floor, allowing concrete to breathe while raising the ambient floor temperature significantly.

Egress and Safety

If you are adding a bedroom, building codes mandate secondary egress points. We handle the excavation, concrete cutting, and installation of specialized egress windows, ensuring safety and allowing natural light to flood the lower level.
